FARO BLANCO MARINE RESORT - Marathon, Florida
Midway between Miami and Key West is the tiny island of Marathon, home to Faro Blanco Marine Resort. With an
average yearly temperature of 78ºF and a lush, tropical setting, the island is the perfect spot for a mid-winter boating vacation, and Faro Blanco's marina is a great place to tie up. The marina's location on Marathon makes it an excellent base for boating in the Florida Keys. Key West, Miami and all of the islands of the Keys are within a day's sail of Faro Blanco, and the area is known for some of the best anchorages in the islands.
Faro Blanco Marine Resort is owned and operated by an affiliate of Spottswood Companies, and the company owns several of the best resorts and marinas in Florida. Faro Blanco offers accommodations for families, singles, sportsmen, and business groups. Guests can choose from cottages, floating houseboat staterooms, lighthouse apartments, and island condominiums for their stay. And there's a pool, beaches and America's only living barrier reef to discover.
The Resort's 100 slip marina can accommodate boats up to 125 feet in length and has all the necessary amenities: dockside hookups (electricity, water, phone, tv), service
and repairs, a fuel dock, ship's store, showers, laundry, and even bait and tackle for fishermen are available. The high season at Faro Blanco is December 20 to April 30 and it can get quite busy, so be sure to make reservations in advance for a slip.
As a base of operations for a boating vacation, Faro Blanco can't be beat. There are dozens of islands within range of a daysail, and anchorages are easy to find. Key West and Miami are less than a day's cruising time away from the resort, and offer boaters several great destinations to choose from for an overnight cruise. "Gunkhole-ing" is also very popular in the Keys and the resort's central location makes it a great starting point for exploring the islands.
For fun and entertainment, Faro Blanco offers three restaurants, a lounge with weekend entertainment, an Olympic-sized swimming pool, barbeque and picnic areas,
and a playground. For guests who enjoy watersports, there is swimming, windsurfing, snorkeling and diving. Hall's Diving Center is nearby and has diving instructors and classes, and the resort offers dive tours of the local reef. The Florida Keys boast some of the best fishing in the world, and fishing charters are available at Faro Blanco. Guides take fishermen out on the flats to fly fish for permit, bonefish, and tarpon; charter boats and captains can be hired to go deep sea fishing for marlin and dolphin.
